Melik On Top At The Broad Mountain Enduro

Jeff Melik: Race Report
ECEA Enduro Series- Broad Mountain Enduro: St. Clair, PA
Result: 1stth OA

Every Memorial Day weekend the Reading Off-road riders put on one of my favorite races of the year and the 2012 Broad Mountain Enduro did not disappoint. Broad Mountain marks the start of the ECEA rock-runs and is known to be one of the toughest races schedule. RORR does a great job testing both a riders speed as well as technical riding ability. The course consists of a mix of hilly terrain that is completely strewn with rocks and flowing single track that weaves in and out of the pines.

This year’s race was made extra challenging by the torrential rain that came through the area on Saturday combined with the oppressive heat and humidity that followed the rain for race day. My day was far from easy as I found myself on the ground a couple of times as well as waiting in the woods while other competitors cleared some of the more difficult sections. As the race went on I didn’t feel that I was having the best of days but the with the course conditions it would have been impossible to have a mistake free day.

The somewhat wet conditions did however play in to my strengths and I was able to come away with a win by 2 points over second. My Gas Gas XC-300 was right at home in the rocks and the Pro-Action has my suspension dialed in to keep the wheels on the ground in the rough stuff.
