Another Win for Melik at Speedsville!

Jeff Melik: Race Report

ECEA Enduro Series- Speedsville Enduro: Speedsville, NY

Result: 1st OA

After walking away from the last round of the ECEA enduro series a little disgusted with my result, I was out for redemption at this weekend’s race. This marked the 14th round of the 19 race series and there was some added competition since the race was co-sanctioned and billed as the ECEA/NETRA shootout. The day started out with a little chill in the air but once the sun broke through you couldn’t have asked for more perfect conditions. This was my first time entering this race and I have heard stories that even when it is dry it will be wet and the last thing you want at Speedsville is rain. Overall I would say trail conditions were as perfect as they come and had an extremely close resemblance to where I live and ride in Southern Ohio.

The course was a good mix of sections that tested a rider’s speed as well as their timekeeping ability. While you had to go fast in the points takes to be in the hunt the race was ultimately decided on an emergency check that most of the AA class zeroed. I was able to ride a mostly mistake free day and only saw the ground one time over the 70-mile course. My score on the deciding emergency check was a perfect 0/00 and was just enough to take the win by 1 second over second place. This win was very important in keeping me in the hunt for the championship and with 5 rounds left for the year there is virtually a tie for the points lead. The next round will take place this coming weekend a little farther east in the South Jersey sand.
